Surfing Vacation

Surfing and traveling are intimately linked. True surfers are always in search of the perfect waves and of new experiences. This drives them to travel around the world, board in hand, to test out new waters. Other surfers travel so they can experience the beauty and serenity of surfing in peaceful locations surrounded by only a few people.

If you’re thinking of trying a surfing vacation, there are quite a number of online travel agencies that specialize in surfing holidays. You’ll find you can organize a family surf vacation, all inclusive romantic surfing vacations, all inclusive vacations for surfing that aren’t romantic, cheap surfing vacations, a beginner surfing vacation, and surfing trips for the more experienced surfers.

Many locations also offer surf clinics, where all levels of surfers or those interested in becoming surfers can learn to surf; sometimes the price of the clinic classes is included in the price of the surf vacation. Many of these travel agencies employ experienced, well-traveled surfers that know the right places and the right time for surfing. Often, there are even guides to meet you at your destination to show you exactly where the best surfing is.

One of the best places for surfing vacations is Australia, where you’ll be able to find some of the best waves on Earth. The east coast, where you’ll find the Queensland and New South Wales coasts is home to surfing hot spots like Burleigh Heads and Kirra. There are reef, beach and point breaks. Swells can be found in the area both in the summer and winter, though the summer swells last longer.

The only real problem here is the sheer amount of people that visit this area for surfing; if you’re a beginner, you’ll definitely get crowded out. The Great Ocean Road on the south coast is also a popular surfing holiday area, with Bells Beach probably being the main destination. Big wave riders are attracted to this area, as some waves reach over 20 feet. The west coast is a little less crowded; there are quite a few spots that beginners should avoid, as these spots, like the Margaret River region, get hit by dangerous waves.

Another classic surfing holiday location is Hawaii, which is considered the home of surfing. You’ll find the Pipeline here, Jaws (not the shark) and Sunset Beach; anybody who considers themselves a halfway decent surfer has to visit Hawaii, especially the North Shore. If crowds aren’t your thing, though, you should avoid the North Shore. Even if you’re not a surfer, Hawaii is worth the trip just to check out the amazing surfing going on.

If you’re looking for the best surf trips or the best surf vacations, hop online to find a travel agency that specializes in surf trips. You can also check out surfboarding forums or websites to ask advice about surf vacations from experienced surfboarders.
