Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise is found in Queensland, on the Gold Coast of Australia. It is often simply referred to as “Surfers” and is particularly known for its very wide surf beach and the quantity of high rise buildings, especially those overlooking the ocean. Many of these have become an accommodation in Surfers Paradise for visitors, while lots of other types of accommodation in Surfers Paradise also exist. There is also the Cavill Mall; this mall is found running through the center of the main shopping area.

Initially, Surfers Paradise was nothing more than a nameless 80 acre farm. A number of people were unsuccessful in making it prosper and eventually a part of the land was dedicated to the construction of the Main Beach Hotel. The license for the hotel eventually lapsed and real estate companies attempted to sell land in the area, which they called “Surfer’s Paradise Estate” to attract buyers; this wasn’t successful because the area was not easy to reach. Only after 1925, indeed, with the creation and extension of roads and bridges did the area become popular.

In the mid 1920s, the Surfers Paradise Hotel was opened, which quickly became a popular spot. In 1933, the town officially changed its name to Surfers Paradise. Since then, it has developed immensely, with high rise buildings facing the beach and a multitude of shops and restaurants; it has become a very popular tourist destination.

There are miles of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, wonderful sunny weather for more than half the year and, nearby, four major theme parks and a rainforest. As far as surfing, there are great waves with point breaks though many experienced surfers claim that the name “Surfers Paradise” is a bit of an exaggeration when it comes to the surf scene. Still, the whole environment of the place makes it a very enjoyable beach town. From the Main Beach area, you can rent surfboards, body boards, wake boards and jet skis.

There’s always a game of beach volleyball being played and you can either watch or join in on the fun. There’s also fishing and whale watching for those who don’t want to get wet. Whatever your tastes, you’ll find something to entertain you at Surfers Paradise.
