Spitfire Skateboards

Spitfire is a skateboard wheel company distributed by Deluxe Distribution; it was founded in 1988 and offers a number of different high quality skateboard wheel models. It has its own professional skateboarding team, which includes Eric Koston, Daewon Song, Erick Ellington, Anthony Van Engelen, Tony Trujillo and Kevin Long.

Among the high quality wheels that Spitfire offers are the Spitfire Powercores. These are made with an internal 100 durometer polyurethane covered by an external 99 durometer polyurethane. Essentially, this translates into the fact that the wheels can provide both speed and smoothness; the harder, 100 durometer polyurethane is responsible for giving the wheels speed, while the presence of the softer, 99 durometer urethane is what allows the wheels to move smoothly. When tested, these wheels give high quality performances on all types of terrain, including parks, steel ramps and the street.

There are also the Spitfire Hardline Classics. These wheels are somewhat thinner than the majority of standard wheels and they are harder as well; indeed, they are made from 101 durometer polyurethane. The fact that they are made with such hard polyurethane gives them incredible speed, especially on surfaces that are smooth, like ramps, skate parks and smooth concrete; they are also relatively easy to slide. The only downside to these types of wheels is that some vibrations may be felt when skating on rough surfaces.

No matter what type of urethane is used in Spitfire wheels, they are made so that shape constraining molds can be avoided; this is not true of the majority of skateboard wheels manufactured today. The shape of the wheels is often modified, updated or even completely changed by the company in response to the feedback of their skateboarding team. All Spitfire wheel models are designed with both function and speed in mind; a high rebound formula is used on softer wheels to avoid speed drag that results from the use of softer urethane.

Reviews regarding Spitfire skateboard wheels seem to be overwhelmingly positive; most skaters are very happy with Spitfire. Skateboards with these types of wheels ride very well; the wheels perform wonderfully. One of the biggest advantages of these wheels is that they last very long, some as long as three years. Many skaters love the intense graphics and the fact that the wheels are very economically priced.
