Mystery Skateboards
Mystery Skateboards is a skateboarding company that was created by Jamie Thomas so that he could play around with novel graphics for skateboard decks. Zero Skateboards are also manufactured by the same company that manufactures Mystery Skateboards; actually, they are pretty much the same decks. Both Mystery Skateboards and Zero Skateboards fall under the control of Black Box distribution.
Mystery Skateboard decks are not the only products that the Mystery skateboard company makes; this relatively new company has placed the Mystery skateboard logo on wheels, accessories (like wax, hardware and bearings) and clothing, like sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats and beanies. You can also purchase items like belts, patches, stickers, backpacks and wristbands. While Zero Skateboards are essentially black with white (or even color) graphics over the black background, Mystery skateboards have a white background with black graphics. The Mystery skateboarding logo is a heart with a lightning bolt through the center.

Though the company is relatively new, it has proven itself to be a high quality skateboard manufacturer, producing decks that are flexible, strong, and that have an appealing style. The skateboarding team that rides under the Mystery logo has also shown itself to be a strong team, capable of great performances. The Mystery pro team includes Ryan Smith, Lindsey Robertson, Adrian Lopez, Ryan Bobier and Dan Murphy.
Mystery skateboard decks are made from 7 plies of hard rock maple. They’re constructed in Mexico and have graphics over the entire board, including the edges. They often have rough bottoms and not much concave. Actually, Mystery has really only one design with a mild concave nature, made from the Shallow Grave mold (shared with Zero skateboards).
The graphics are very appealing with high contrasting white and black. The imagery is often strong and bold, with no frills; there are skeletons, Gothic images, surreal images and characters that seem plucked out of mystery novels. Design elements include checkers, swirling lines, and a bull’s eye type pattern.
As far as skater reviews, opinions on Mystery skateboards are mixed. There are some who claim that Mystery boards have excellent pop and flip, though they are easily snapped; indeed, mystery skateboards have been called Zeros that flip faster and lighter. They allow skaters to do quite a number of flip tricks and to ollie quite high. The sliding ability of the Mystery skateboards has also been seen by many to be relatively positive, though by no means great. Others claim that the pop is not acceptable and the board breaks or warps too easily to be at all useful.
