Girl Skateboards
Girl Skateboards was created by Rick Howard, Megan Baltimore, Spike Jonze and Mike Carroll in August 1993 in Torrance California. The company primarily markets its professionally endorsed skateboard decks, though it also offers other accessories, such as wheels, bearings, etc. and skater clothing. Girl joins Chocolate Skateboards, Royal Trucks, Lakai Footwear, Four Star Clothing, Skate Mental and Ruby Republic in being part of the Crailtap family.
Most of the owners of the Girl skateboard company initially started out either riding or working for Plan B; Rick Howard and Mike Carroll left due to a wheel invoicing problem and set out to head their own company. The original Girl skateboards team was created when Sean Sheffey, Jovante Turner, Tim Gavin, Rudy Johnson, Eric Koston and Guy Marian left their sponsors to turn to Girl Skateboards.
Girl skateboard products are designed with urban trendy, hip styles in mind; products also demonstrate a particular hint of surrealism. Merchandise features attractive colors and intelligent designs; new age skateboarders find Girl’s high quality, durable skateboarders extremely appealing. The Girl skateboard deck is also characterized by a futuristic look that is at the same time young and fresh.
The Girl 10 year OG re-issue series features clean, cool graphics on a high quality deck. These are wood Girl skateboard decks that are somewhat flatter (less of a concave) than many other brands. How appealing this feature is obviously depends on what any particular skater finds desirable. The pop on these wooden Girl skateboard models, as on mostly all Girl skateboards, is about at a medium level.
The 10 year OG re-issue series offers traditional clean cut re-issue Girl graphics that are 10 years old, alongside the Girl skateboard logo. The board of each professional skater on the Girl team has its own particular color scheme. For example, Brian Anderson’s board is yellow, green and gold, while Brandon Biebel’s board is blue, silver, white and baby blue.
There are obviously many more deck styles to choose from; traditional Girl skateboarding graphics can also be seen on plain wood grain decks, while funkier graphics decorate other board series.
