Enjoi Skateboards

The original head of Enjoi skateboard company was the professional skater Marc Johnson. Johnson eventually left to become part of another skateboarding company, Chocolate Skateboards; Matt Eversole then took over Enjoi Skateboards. Their current distributor is Dwindle Distribution, owned by Globe International. The primary product of the company consists of a professional line of skateboards, though it also markets wheels and clothing; Enjoi released a video in 2006 called “Bag of Suck”. The Enjoi Skateboard logo is the Enjoi Panda.

Enjoi skateboard decks are considered high quality decks. They are made with High Quality epoxy glue, using lighter, superior quality materials. This allows them to be lighter yet as strong, if not stronger, than standard wooden decks; they are also extremely durable. The 7-ply construction also boasts the Enjoi exclusive Monster Mold design. This Enjoi skateboard deck design involves a concave in the nose and tail that is more intense, leading to spoon shapes that act as cups around the skater’s foot; the increased concave also contributes to adding rigidity behind the bolts.

The Enjoi skateboarding team is composed of a number of highly talented professional skateboarders. One is Jerry Hsu, who was featured in the Enjoi video, “Bag of Suck”; he was actually nominated for a best video part award and a reader’s choice award as a result of his participation in this compilation. Another is Cairo Foster, a Taiwanese born skateboarder who learned to skateboard when he moved to Egypt, at 13 years old. He got his first sponsor in 1994 and appeared in a Thrasher video in 1995. He joined Enjoi in 2006, after riding for Mad Circle, Real and Popwar.

A major previous figure on the Enjoi skateboard team was Rodney Mullen; he is considered by some to be one of the most influential skateboarders in the entire history of skateboarding. He began skating at 10 years old and not even a year later he was sponsored and even won first place in his first skating contest. He has won numerous contests, defeating world champ Steve Rocco in 1980 and has most likely accumulated the most successful list of victories in the history of skateboarding; he turned pro in the early 80s with the Powell Peralta Bones Brigade skate company.

He is thought to be responsible for the invention of many skateboarding tricks (seen in the 80s and early 90s), such as the Heelflip, the Impossible, the 360 flip and the Kickflip. These tricks are commonly seen today in vertical skating and freestyle and street skating. Mullen now heads Almost Skateboards.
