Blind Skateboards

Blind Skateboards was founded by Mark Gonzales through the World Industries empire of Steve Rocco; the Blind Skateboards logo is a stylized grim reaper. Gonzales chose the name “Blind” in response to some disputes he had with his former sponsor, Vision Skateboards. Today, Mark Gonzales is no longer with Blind Skateboards, which is currently run by Dwindle Distribution. Besides decks, the company markets wheels, accessories and clothing.

The Blind skateboard company prides itself on using innovated board-making technology. Water-base glue is the industry standard when constructing skateboard decks; epoxy resin is used by a number of skateboard companies, including Blind Skateboards, as a substitute to this standard. Epoxy is much stronger and more aggressive than the standard glue; this allows less of it to be used and so Blind Skate board decks are lighter and stiffer. They also seem to maintain their pop longer than some other decks.

Epoxy resin is able to create a much tighter lock between the plies, starting at the actual manufacturing process itself. Whereas standard decks experience a “bounce-back” effect while going through pressing and shaping, leading to the loss of certain aspects included in their original design, decks constructed with epoxy have a greatly reduced bounce-back.

This allows the bends and curves that were originally designed to remain in the final construction of Blind skateboard decks. Furthermore, 7-ply epoxy decks are stronger and lighter than standard 7-ply decks, and 8-ply epoxy decks are substantially stronger than standard 7-ply decks, while weighing the same.

Then there are Resin V-ply decks, offered to bring the high standards and quality that characterizes the team’s boards to the public. Canadian hard rock maple veneers are pressed into a vertically laminated core that is handmade. Thanks to the more than 75 individual glue joints in the core, this processing results in an unbelievable level of strength, especially when compared to the standard 7-ply construction. Created in this way, the core is rigid yet responsive and the deck’s durability and longevity are increased.
