Almost Skateboards
One famous skateboard brand is Almost skateboards, owned by Dwindle Distribution (which also serves another six skate companies). The company called Almost skateboarding is headed by Daewon Song and Rodney Mullen and has been releasing innovative skateboards, complete with resin epoxy, for the past four years.
Almost skateboards offers two interesting skateboard design technologies. The first is called Almost Impact Technology and involves a novel approach to creating a rigid Almost skateboard deck that is still able to maintain the natural sensation given by the classic 7 ply construction. This technology leads to a considerable extension in the life of Almost skateboard decks; maximum pop is not affected.
Boards constructed with this Almost skateboarding technology include composite carbon fiber plates in the areas where trucks are mounted. These carbon fiber areas are disc-shaped and are incredibly strong, while at the same time being extremely light; one of their main functions is to dampen and resist impacts.
These discs are fully embedded within the Almost skateboard deck, using Epoxy Resin anchor adhesion points; in this way, a firm bond is created and disc separation is avoided. This system assures a smooth and controlled ride, even when landing roughly. The discs strengthen the boar at its usual break points and allow for the dispersion of impact pressure so that no one point has to withstand a great deal of stress. This drastically reduces the likelihood of breakage.
Über light construction is also part of Almost skateboards’ technology. This construction involves an internal carbon foam deck within the standard 7 ply deck. The inside deck is extremely light, yet almost as rigid as metal; essentially, it acts somewhat like a skeleton or a support structure, while also increasing the lateral rigidity of the board. Because of this novel internal skeleton, the deck is lighter and has a longer pop than a standard 7 ply, but still slides, wears and looks like a normal board.
The lateral rigidity has a very positive effect on consistency and accuracy. Flex is minimized along the edge of the deck and this leads to greatly increased board control; this allows you to handle flip tricks better, perform them faster and execute them more precisely. Overall, the system assures the skater that the deck responds much more quickly to movements.
